Sertoma Recycles Used Hearing Aids
May is Better Hearing and Speech
|
The American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) proclaim May as Better Hearing and Speech Month. In response to this proclamation, the Sertoma Club of Madison is sponsoring a special project for the month of May. The club is collecting used hearing aids and sending them to Starkey Laboratories (a well known manufacturer of hearing instruments)for refurbishment. Starkey Labs will recondition the hearing aids and make them available to Sertoma based on credits earned. With the assistance of the UW Madison Communicative Disorders Department, Speech and Hearing Clinic, Sertoma will disperse the reconditioned hearing aids at limited cost to qualified recipients.
This project has been named SHARP (Sertoma Hearing Aid Recycling Program) and has been successfully working in the Suncoast District of Florida. Other Sertoma clubs throughout the country are getting on the bandwagon to recyle used hearing aids in their communities as well. Please see our home page (SHARPS program) for additional information.
